SEI assisted a leading global biotechnology company with the implementation of an enterprise lab operations and testing application. This was the largest project in the history of the company and included extensive process improvements and integration with existing legacy applications across the organization.
SEI played a key role in managing the 3rd party software provider to ensure timeliness and quality of deliverables. The solution included both out-of the-box functionality and custom development to satisfy the client’s specific requirements and SEI helped coordinate the integration of the various development components.
SEI also worked closely with the business unit leaders to identify and document requirements and communicate those to the development team. The business units were dispersed across multiple labs throughout the country and SEI focused on standardizing processes and requirements to achieve consistency across the business functions.
SEI was a primary link between the business leads, systems analysts, 3rd party vendors and Six Sigma Blackbelts; facilitating communications across all participating groups. SEI was also responsible for ensuring timely creation of deliverables for the technical team to use for systems build. The team also led the implementation of client interfaces based on HL7 standards. SEI assisted with the creation of functional and technical specifications, transformation maps and test scripts to facilitate the successful completion of interface project tasks.
This engagement achieved the following key objectives:
- Effectively managed the 3rd party software provider to ensure quality of both on-site configuration and off-site custom development
- Ensured comprehensive and consistent application requirements and processes across business units
- Identified process improvement opportunities with existing business functions to drive efficiencies within the new technology solution
