Capabilities used
A nationwide leader in healthcare analytics had recently implemented a large-scale, big data platform but recognized that strong adoption required stronger governance. Existing processes, tools, and organizational capabilities weren’t equipped to manage the scale or complexity of the new environment. SEI was brought in to assess the organization’s data governance maturity and recommend improvements to minimize risk and maximize value.
SEI conducted a comprehensive assessment of the client’s data governance ecosystem, including technologies, policies, and organizational capabilities. Our work focused on enabling secure, scalable, and strategic platform use. Key activities included:
- Auditing existing data governance processes and technologies
- Evaluating tools supporting data security, lineage, and classification, including those within the Hadoop ecosystem
- Assessing data science team use cases and the classification tools enabling them
- Establishing a clear governance vision supported by an actionable roadmap
- Recommending governance enhancements, including a Data Governance Council, a formal implementation plan, and a quarterly audit schedule to track progress
SEI’s partnership helped the client mature their governance practices and unlock the full potential of their new platform:
- Established a Data Governance Council in collaboration with executive leadership
- Measured baseline governance maturity to guide future improvement
- Recommended new technologies to enhance data lineage and classification, driving platform adoption
- Provided thought leadership and strategic guidance to the CTO and executive team on governance best practices
