Shoot for the Moon: SEI Atlanta’s Fight Against Cancer

SEI team members are simply the best! Our consultants are known for coming together to support each other both inside and outside of the office. It is very common for a consultant to spend time off the clock helping another ramp up on a new project or solve a difficult problem. When a coworker makes a request for help, consultants jump at the chance to assist. Which is exactly what nine of us are doing this summer.

Jeff Caplan, a fellow consultant who happens to be an accomplished triathlete, approached the Atlanta office in April about partnering with Team in Training, the flagship fundraising arm of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). Within days, Team SEI was established as nine of us jumped at the opportunity to raise money and participate in the upcoming Napa-to-Sonoma Half-Marathon and 5k in July. For most of us, the desire to participate was not due to our love of running or interest in a weekend getaway, instead, it was a chance to support our coworker and an organization that has meant so much to his family over the past few years.

Jeff’s wife Lucye was a breast cancer survivor. During her aggressive treatment regimen, her bone marrow was damaged leading to an additional blood cancer diagnosis of High Risk Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Over the past three years, the LLS has been an incredible support system for the Caplan family. Their mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

To participate in the event, each team member must commit to raising a minimum of $1,800 for LLS which equates to a total minimum donation of $16,200 for the SEI team. While that is certainly a lot of money, it doesn’t fully equate to our commitment and passion in support of Lucye and others. We are certain with the support of our families, friends, SEI family and clients we can do more. We talked to Lucye about our efforts and were motivated by her wisdom.

“Shoot for the moon, if you fall short you will be among the stars.”

This has become our team motto and what led us to our goal of raising $50,000. Team SEI is shooting for the moon and we’d love your support. If you’re interested in learning more, please visit https://pages.teamintraining.org/ga/napson19/TeamSEI.

Lucye, we hope you can feel our love, support, and passion as we honor you in our efforts. We can’t wait to cross the finish line, celebrate our accomplishments, and know we have made an impact in the fight against cancer.
